If Martha Stewart made a baby with a beer swilling, sailor cussing, country loving man, I’d be the product of that union.
This is my blog. I will share many recipes. I will be sarcastic. I will show you shoes. I will talk about my dog, and chickens. I will talk about random stuff. But mostly, I’ll share recipes. I created this blog as a way for friends and family to have access to my recipes. So many people want the details on something I bring to an event, or something I post on the net. This is a clean easy way to reach out to people, to make them smile and provide them a recipe I have created or tried and them to have some photographic evidence of what the result should look like.
I love to feed people. Food makes people happy. Homemade food makes them blissed out of their freaking minds. It’s good stuff.
I am happily married to my one true love, my best friend, who I started dating on Valentine’s Day when I was 18 years old. I have loved him ever since. In 2009, I got to become his wife. He is my happily ever after.
I am on a mission to make as many things from scratch as I possibly can and get back to the basics, to try and live in part like my great grandparents did eating homemade food and as organic as it gets – from your own garden. With all of the food scares and fear of pesticides and preservatives, it’s a truly amazing feeling to know exactly what I am eating. That when I spread some strawberry jam onto a toasted slice of homemade bread I know the jam contains nothing more than strawberries, lemon juice, sugar and pectin. Walking into our basement and seeing shelves filled with mason jars full of the vegetables from our garden or fruits purchased from the local farmers is a great feeling. Some people think I’m crazy for all the from scratch cooking, the growing my own food, keeping chickens, canning and preserving. I think those people are crazy for NOT trying to do as much as they can. Your body is a machine, and you should be fueling it with the best possible foods. I am working to re-invent old recipes, making them healthier, with less fat or better fats. I use REAL BUTTER, coconut and olive oils, duck and chicken eggs from my own back yard.
I hope you enjoy all I have to offer on this blog, and that it helps you find some joy in the food or the sarcasm, or a bit of both.
About the photos on my blog:
one word - iPhone. Yep. All the photos on this site are taken with my iPhone. I have a perfectly good point and shoot digital camera. Love it. Someday I want to own a higher tech digital camera to sharpen up my photography skills. But for this blog? All iPhone all the time. Why you ask? Because i’m a busy girl. I work a full time job, have hobbies (other than cooking of course), have a house to maintain, and friends to hang out with, and want to eat my food while it’s still hot. The photos you see here are what i’m seeing as it comes out of the oven, pot, freezer, etc. Some are slightly staged to pretty them up, but I don’t have backdrops or special lighting. The recipe is the heart of the food, and the photo is for you to have a guideline of what the outcome of the recipe should be. And I just don’t have the patience to take the time to make things look super nice…I want to eat it! Kudos to all the bloggers out there that are so patient and stage beautiful photos. I envy you.
